Envisioning a Healthy Community

ArtReach was proud to partner with the 11th Street Bridge Park, Risa Fund, and Artolution in the summer of 2015 to create a unique mural connecting students from Ward 6, 7 and 8 in Washington, DC on a collaborative work of art that is representative of communities living on both sides of the Anacostia River.

Participants, drawn from high school aged students on both sides of the river, were challenged to illustrate their vision of a “healthy city, community and neighborhood” as part of a collaborative mural project. Each workshop included discussions on how to illuminate the diverse values of each neighborhood, the arts and intercultural communication.

For two weeks, twenty local teens from both sides of the Anacostia River created a 55 foot mural with the goal of envisioning a healthy city and community.

The large-scale mural went on view at the Ronald Reagan Building and National Trade Center’s Atrium Gallery.

The mural will find a permanent home on the Bridge Park when the park is officially complete in 2020.
